One of the important factors when buying a stroller  like this is the ease of pushing, storage,  and the ability to lay the child on their back when they are sleeping. Usually stroller will have all of these features, because they are important to most parents. There is nothing more frustrating then having to maneuver around sharp turns in a large stroller. Buying one of these can set you back a few but they are well worth it, especially if you are a dedicated jogger.  Many people buy these each month just for the efficiency.  Having two infants and this type of  jog stroller makes it much easier to transport kids. Make a day trip to an amusement park, or a day trip for shopping or just make any stroll that requires a  casual walk. The term jogging stroller in itself really doesn’t give the item a fair definition, because most strollers of this type are usually used by moms who are not joggers but for daily outings with the family.   Some strollers are even equipped with accessories like bug screens and water holders.

Buying a  jogging stroller might take a little time and effort takes a little time to see what you like, whether you can afford a very fancy one with a large price tag or you are looking for a cheap version with a lot less frills.

Accessories for the Weather

Walking or  taking your baby for a jog in the park there can be many different situations.  Since the sun doesn’t always shine there are covers to protect your baby from rain and bugs. A proper weather shield will protect the child from the sun, wind and rain.  Sunshine can be a very intensive source of heat for the baby and although the sun has many health benefits there are also many reasons why the sun should be shielded form the babies soft skin.The best rain shield will be made mostly from plastic to keep the driving rain from penetrating the cover,they can be found for a reasonable price. If  buying a specific cover for a specific  weather event may be to cumbersome, then you should be able to find an all weather cover shield to protect your child from the sun, wind and rain.
The Bassinet Accessory

Babies younger than 6 months are very small and cant hold there head up, so they don’t have the musculature to sit in any type of jogging stroller.  There are bassinets available on the market that can be attached to the all terrain jogging stroller. The baby can lay flat on their back and visually keep an eye on the mother. They should have a cover so if it does start raining they can be shielded from the elements. When the child is ready to transfer to the jogging stroller in the sitting position the bassinet can be unclasped.

Although the double jogging strollers are very big they are sometimes not equipped with the necessary items like a cup holder or extra storage. They do hold a lot of baby items like diapers, drinks and toys but the storage area can be a accident waiting to happen when drinks are thrown in the bottom of the storage compartment. There are cup holders that have  small zipper compartment for holding small items like sunscreen. Extra bags may be of necessity when trying to keep organized for a long walking trip.

Since motherhood is hard enough it just makes sense to buy the extra little things that make life easier. If you are willing to buy a jogging stroller for the price they offer it for, because of the many benefits they have then these small accessories will make the strollers even better.

Inspect your Used Stroller

Used strollers need to be inspected thoroughly, they will usually have a lot of mileage on them and have plenty of stains and rust if not taken care of.  Look for rust on the wheels and look carefully for parts that are loose.  The handles on some strollers are made with hinges for parents of different sizes. So the handle can be adjusted for comfort, so pay attention to the hinges since they would be the weakest part of the handle. There is a lot of weight that stresses out the stroller, especially if the person pushing the stroller pushes down on the handle a lot.

Give the stroller a good inspection, its just like buying a car.

Look on the internet or the local paper, or better yet find a relative that wants to get rid of a stroller,although your choices may be limited. If the stroller you find is from a dedicated jogger you might not want the features that these type of parents like to have.  Jogging strollers for serious runners will probably not have features like a swivel wheel that makes it turn quickly, but will probably have a fixed front wheel for running long distances. For the parent that just wants to be able to walk around town and wants the smooth ride that a large wheel gives them- a swivel wheel and smaller diameter tire is best.

Does it Pay to Buy a Used Cheap Jogger Stroller?

The cost of a new stroller can get up to six hundred dollars, so buying a used stroller for less than half the cost can really save you some money, especially if you can’t afford an expensive one. Do your research on what type of stroller you need, if your not in a position to spend alot of money then buy a new inexpensive cheaper model or find someone who has one to sell to you.  Get a good enough look at the stroller and you may even want to take it for a test drive, because cheap isnt always the best way to buy an item.

Part of the reason why joggers like these larger wheeled buggies is because of the smooth ride and bump resistant feature of the 16 inch wheels. Combining this wheel feature with the mom who wants to just get around town makes it nicer for the child too. The swivel wheel is the the best of both worlds, you get the smooth running ride with the ability to turn sharply. Most running  jogging strollers have a fixed wheel so runners don’t have the jarring hang ups when moving faster than a walking speed. Some strollers have the feature of unlocking and locking the front wheel to keep it from swiveling, so you can change from running to slow walking.

A popular stroller is the mini three wheeled jogging type.  Although referred to as a mini jogging stroller it really isn’t small, but just a little smaller than the full version jogging stroller.  They are small enough to get around corners and although they are not really meant for jogging they are a copy of the larger jogging stroller, but with the same functions. They are just as easy to push in gravel and erratic terrain.

When using the regular type stroller that you find in a store, you will discover that when pushing, that the front wheel will not clear the uneven cracks that develop in the sidewalk causing the child to take a header into the plastic support in front of them.

So, if you are an inexperienced parent that is also an experienced runner you need to take into consideration many factors. If you are a shopper and a jogger you might want to consider a swivel wheel model just because of the maneverability and the capabilities of the stroller when jogging.  If running is very important to you then you might want to consider just a fixed wheel because of the stability.  Jogging comfortably without worrying about the stroller moving erratically may be the better choice. When you are not using it for running, it will be just a slight pick up of the front wheel, and since most strollers are light weight and made of aluminum this is not that hard or most mothers to perform.
